Ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. Essentially, it means to make it right with the ancestors, or to make right with the people with whom you have relationships. All I can say is Thank goodness for “GOOGLE” lol, very interesting reading I must say. Oh & Nick! in case you didnt know where I am just turn the globe to the left a bit more and look down the bottom & you will come across a small funny shaped bit of land called Aussie Land then if you take a peek to the west & down a tad of Aussie Land you will find a small city called Perth now not far from there is a city called Mandurah! C it yet? Well Why are you not there paying me a visit yet? I make a mean cuppa & pavlova lol, Have a Great Weekend Dear Sir

Have you been all the way round there then Nick? Just meeting a friend for dinner and am on the garlic again – although not too noisy here in Brasserie Blanc – little need for ear closeness so shouldn’t be a problem!

Sounds like a Hawian branch of the co op, my mum used to collect green shield stamps, collect two million and get a lead crystal tumbler, fantastic

    Cor, I remember them Gary.

Both my parents were smokers when I was growing up (awful – hated it) They collected the thingies from the packets with the sailors on. What were they again ? Might not have been sailors. Anyway I hated the cigarette smoke. Rotten.

Happy days – they both gave up 18 years ago :)

The Pacific looks really good doesn’t it Andrew? We cancelled Sky movies a while back. Am I right in thinking it’s exclusive to Sky ?

Okay, just read up on it and yup, those Pacific Islanders are dead on correct! Only heard the word before but have never seen it spelled out. Just did the ‘once-over Wiki’ thing but I agree on all points.

I bet that Place doesn’t have anything on Wagga Wagga (pronounced Wogga Wogga) or even Woy Woy, NSW. Spike Milligan’s Mum lived there. Spike can’t have thought it an overly interesting place because he called it the largest above ground cemetery in the world. There was some silly thing once in which he said something along the lines that Woy Woy meant deep water (something like that, anyway) and he wondered which Woy meant deep and which Woy meant water. I wish I could remember it properly.

There is one place I’ve never had an interest in visiting – Bugewoi. The name is too silly.

Don’t you just love indigeneous names for places? So many visitors to Australia have a hilarious (for us) time trying to pronounce them. TLH has a couple of goodies but how about Wooloongabba, Wynnum, Wadiligong, Warramboo and the list goes one (and that’s just the ‘W’’s)! Apparently, so my Grandmother told me, Wynnum means settlement by the sea. Out of one word…?? :)

@ thelonehydrangea I think if we got together and wrote as many strange aussie town names down we would really confuse everyone in here lol I was born in a small wheatbelt country town named Wongon Hills but have lived in a lot of towns with really strange and hard to pronounce names lol, heres some I found just the other day here in the west of aussie land “Yallabatharra”, “Yandanoo”, “Yarawindah” just to name 3, now try saying them after a few drinks lol

More Elvis. The Blue Hawaii soundtrack is so nice. Have got it on record – Mum’s one from the time it came out. She was such an Elvis fan; he was part of the family. Things of his such as Jailhouse rock and Heartbreak Hotel and such I wouldn’t care if I ever heard again because they’ve been flogged to death but I still very much like things like this

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si-EQS0RMzM

and I used to go to school and hear Elvis singing Moonlight Swim in my head when I was a very little girl, like a radio in the mind. It’s only at this age now I understand how young he was when he died. What a waste.
